Dofollow is the way to quality blogs i really believe so, since i have noticed that if i use nofollow that most of the comments that i get are spam, and if i make it to be dofollow i get the quality comments and spam too…. On my blog visitors from India are the second largest group of visitors, too, right after the US and before UK… I guess this might be because a lot of SEO work is being outsourced to India and thus the interest for SEO is bigger there…. When I do searches for do follow blogs that are in my niche there are only a couple. But there are so many that are no follow. Do you feel I am better off doing comments on non-related do follow, or related no follow? I hear that no follow is not completely ignored. Remember that your comments reach real potential buyers and that is just as important as where you are listed in the search engines.
If you have stats or analytics you can use that to see which of the blogs — including the nofollow blogs — send you visitors. Then you can prioritize them as to which are most important. When time is tight, focus on those that are dofollow and those that send real visitors. When time allows comment on some of the others. If you can directly track conversions spend more time on sites that send buyers and not just visitors.
Do check out the dofollow tools mentioned. They should lead you to some niche sites interested in guitars. I also recommend reading my post about Selecting Keywords. If you make your posts shorter and focus on what particular type of guitar or type or guitar part that will make them much easier to locate in the search engines. We do both on our blog. We are able to catch the spammers for the most part with askiem spam guard through wordpress. Like most other bloggers using WordPress we do have Akismet installed.
We also heavily moderate comments including those that get through Akismet and rescue valid contents that get picked up by it. Here is a solution to the Spam problem. It is unlikely that Spammers will put in the effort to reach top commentator status. They will leave. There is a huge advantage to becoming a top commentator, such as a link from each page… huge link juice.
You have to really add to the conversation. Any spammer attempting this would quickly be spotted. While that would seem to be a simple solution many bloggers find that their commentators who were adding to the conversation suddenly start leaving any old comment to achieve Top Commentator status. There is no simple solution because we can not control the bad behavior of others. I agree that Top Commentator plugins do provide a greater advantage to those who appear in them — at least for now.

Intelligent Bloggers to Consider Reading. I also have found that Dofollow blogs have much more active community members and commentators, you just have to watch out for spammers! We all have limited time so given the choice between being highly active in a nofollow versus a DoFollow blog community it simply makes more sense to focus on the DoFollow blogs. The reason blogs become nofollow is because they are targeted by people who are more interested in links than in adding to the quality of the discussion.
Those who copy and paste get deleted most of the time — at least in blogs like this one. No one likes a spammer so the solution is to provide value with your comments.

WordPress 2. If the blog is nofollow I leave immediately. While I do read major blogs that are nofollow my time is very limited so dofollow bloggers are far more likely to have me as a frequent visitor, commentator and to share their posts at Twitter, FriendFeed and cliKball.
I go with do-follow blogs also leave if the blog is no-follow. I believe that is what many who are nofollow do not understand; there are only so many hours in the day so focusing on sites that provide the most value is important to growing a business or blog. Originally all links were dofollow meaning that search engines would follow them and then Google came up with the idea to discount some kinds of links — and especially links in comments — and make them nofollow the search engines would not follow them and they would not count toward page rank or organic search engine position.
Many bloggers felt this was unfair or unnecessary and decided to actively remove the nofollow tags and restore comment links to dofollow. Eventually Andy Bailey developed CommentLuv which allows our commentators the proper word for commenters to feature a specific blog post and attract more real people as opposed to search engines.
Although it is more work because spammers love dofollow blogs we feel it is important to reward those who take the time to leave comments. This is a very useful information to help my website increase traffic. I really appreciate your effort for posting this information.

Buyer beware I guess. Multiple plugins are required and then you still have to sometimes manually remove nofollow tags — when you edit a comment for example. Many blogs also get tired of policing all the spam and go back to nofollow. I visited your site and wonder which Rancho Murieta where. It would be a good idea to add more location data to your site and to always include area codes in phone numbers.

Martin — I agree that content is always important and that in the long term, dofollow becomes less important. When I can squeeze some extra time to go find new blogs though it makes sense to start with those who make an effort to create an active community because they and their readers are far more likely to participate wherever they travel online.
