First the rear view camera started staying on when not in reverse from time to time. Now the whole system restarts or freezes every minute or so. I can't update the system as is has the most current software, and the current chip shortage prevents the horrendous service department from replacing the stereo.
Regretfully I think this is my last Chrysler vehicle. It's been nothing but problem after problem. Price Jr. Bought a ram lariat longhorn, 90k truck. Now the UConnect system keeps saying "device not supported" Brought it to a dealer where I work. They replaced the entire system and it still says the same thing. Tried to delete the SirusXM no luck. Disconnected both negative terminals as suggeted in previous post and still no luck.
I use the truck for work and travel a lot and need the navigation system to work and not be interrupted. The Dealer was no help at all and refuses to help further. I have a Ram classic cc that of course has Uconnect. Yesterday there was a message " update failed " and nothing would work. In August , a lawsuit said FCA knew about vulnerabilities for at least 18 months , but only acted once the Wired.
Attorneys for Chrysler told the judge there is no evidence hackers have affected the vehicles since those vehicles were remedied under the recall and none of the owners say they changed their driving habits due to the hacking incident The judge dismissed most of the claims, three of those dismissed with prejudice, but ruled the plaintiffs do have standing to pursue damages for loss in value and overpayments for the vehicles.
It's possible those plaintiffs will receive some sort of settlement if they carry on with the case, but it's looking less likely for a nationwide compensation settlement. NHTSA concludes Chrysler vehicles that weren't part of the recalls don't have radios with built-in cellular access or short-range wireless features, which allegedly eliminate the hacking threat. In addition, third-party testing showed potential cellular vulnerabilities were fixed by wireless carrier Sprint or repaired through updates to the Uconnect software.
The hack was possible because of the Harmon Kardon uConnect infotainment systems installed in the affected Jeeps and other vehicles. The plaintiffs claim the uConnect 3G systems in the vehicles should be physically disconnected from the controller area network bus. The CAN bus links together the electronics of the vehicle, including vital functions such as the braking system and transmission.
Maybe you've experienced this problem. Maybe you're concerned you will soon. I was also pointed in the direction of a lockpick Phiefer Active Member.
I would be very careful better to say Avoid any attempt to write data back to a controller's memory. This could turn it to a 'brick'. There are datagrabbers available to capture sending messages to car and reverse engineering doing this overs the diagnostic bus, but I don't know what you had in mind. Also not sure about the cellular approach. I have thought about mods needed to keep the cameras awake and trigger a recording, allowing me to capture a video of someone messing with my truck, however my first approach would be to do this with an external controller added to the bus and avoiding hacking any of the factory controllers.
Once I get my truck I will consider this as a winter project. My question for the group. If you were to hack into your trucks network, what would you try to do? Phiefer said:. Click to expand I might start by looking at the wiring harness diagrams for single and systems. The systems that are not may have unused inputs that give you clean access to the hardware of the center console. Software would then be one way more complex however to toggle the add-on camera.
An old fashion toggle switch may also work. You will need to know if camera is digital or analog and stay compatible with truck. I'm sure they make an aftermarket wireless cam with a display for under dollars, so many options exist. JT Member. Joined Oct 18, Messages 8 Reaction score WRH said:. Hey JT, thanks for sharing that info. Which speaker system came stock in your vehicle? Hackmunch Well-Known Member. Now if someone could figure out how to do this to our trucks without having to eat ramen for a month, I'm all ears. Last edited: Oct 18, YoAdrian Moderator Staff member. Site Supporter.
